A 6-year-old girl who fell out a third-story window in New Jersey early Tuesday has died, and it's possible she had been jumping on her bed right before the fatal plunge, a spokeswoman from the prosecutor's office tells News 4.
The girl, whose name has not been released, was initially taken to a hospital in critical condition after the fall in Newark. She died within hours.
A prosecutor spokeswoman says it appears the girl had been jumping on her bed with another child; the window had been open because it was a nice night and she may have just fallen out -- a terrible accident.
The investigation is preliminary, though, she stressed.
Video from the scene shows several police cars in the area and police tape roping off a balcony that appears to be on the third floor of a home.
Police are now trying to figure out how the child fell and an investigation is underway.
